David wax musuem newport folk festival1/25/2024 ![]() On his second Daptone Records LP, 2013's Victim of Love, Charles Bradley transcended the club of forgotten black soul men (Lee Fields) and women (Bettye LaVette) of the Seventies to crown contemporary old-school R&B. Have you seen push back against making larger standing room in front of the stage? Have you thought about removing chairs from the smaller stages and how that would affect the mood of the festival?Īlso, thanks for always supporting bike transportation! Sometime in the next few years I play on biking from Boston to NFF.Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires 7:30pm, Stubb's laying down type of music") and the old folk artists like Richie Havens or Pete Seeger. How much conflict do you see between the old guard and the young folks coming to the festival? There is often a big divide between people like Gogol Bordello (As they said themselves, "We are not really. Do you guys pay particular attention to that role? How do you choose those small bands that play the first set on the first day on the smallest stage? Oftentimes, they turn out to be my favorite. Newport seems to be a really great place for small folk bands to kickstart their career, from David Wax Museum or Horsefeathers to the Low Anthem. Me and my friends have traveled across the country going to concerts and festivals and every single one will agree that Newport is the best thing going. Having grown up and attended Newport the last five years on my own, I've realized just how special of a thing the festival is. My parents brought me to Newport Folk Festival a few times starting when I was eleven in 2002. Any plans to sell concert videos or albums? The NPR streaming archives are great, but I want more (and would be happy to pay for it!).Do you have recommendations for how to best sell / donate those tickets so that they end up in the hands of fans? (Especially given that tickets haven't been delivered yet!) I've got one member of my group who can't make it to the festival, and another pair who won't be able to stay for Sunday. I really respect and appreciate your commitment to keeping scalpers away from Newport.Any plans to add more non-English speaking acts to the lineup in this or future years? I'd love to see someone like Gaby Moreno at the Fort!.I've got several questions, but I'll start with three so that I'm not being too greedy. This will be my third consecutive year attending on Early Bird tickets, and I'll be going with my largest group yet (8 people total). First of all, let me say that I love Newport Folk Festival. Turns out the daughter had started a new chip company Late July which as the name suggests goes nicely with our fest for many reasons, and we all though it only fitting that they help run our family tent I LOVE Cape Cod Potato chips so I wrote the family a letter expressing my condolences and mentioning that I loved hearing that NFF was basically like a family reunion for them and I also invited them to come to the fest a few years back as my guest. In his obit it said that he met his wife at Newport Folk in the 60's and that he used to bring his family to the fest all the time after that. The owner of Late July is the daughter of the guy behind Cape Cod Potato Chips. ![]() crazy story of how we came to work with them and why they have become so important to not only our folk family but also all the families that come to Newport. Especially if you are hanging around the Late July Family Tent. I think our gets is pretty easy with a family.
